The Safe Sitter® courses offer the only national standard training curriculum exclusively devoted to preparing young teens to be safe in unsupervised settings, whether home alone, sibling sitting or baby-sitting.

Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR: a 6 ½ hour course that covers all of the course content in Safe Sitter® Essentials, with an additional hour of CPR instruction and manikin practice.

NAEMT's Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is recognized around the world as the leading continuing education program for prehospital emergency trauma care.

The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care through global education. PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program.

Building on success of the Healthcare Careers Discovery Program, high school students will have the opportunity to spend spring break in the wonderful world of medicine in an immersive simulation experience. The 3 day program provides students a broad introduction to the field of medicine, engage in hands-on learning activities and explorations of the various career possibilities in healthcare.

Enrolling in the mini spring break Pre Healthcare Careers Discovery Program will give you the opportunity to:

  • Participate in hands-on learning activities
  • Learning from faculty members, medical and other healthcare professionals
  • Learn skills needed for a future career in healthcare
  • Work as a team to diagnose and treat patients in a true-to-life emergency scenario

The Healthcare Careers Discovery Program offers an innovative, simulation-based approach for high school students aspiring to a career in the evolving field of healthcare. The active learning environment includes a combination of classroom and simulation learning experiences to introduce the student to various clinical professions and skills. American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid Certification are included.

Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2019 at 11:59PM.

Objectives:

Learn from experienced medical professionals as they share their knowledge. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is included along with the opportunity to learn:

  • Vital signs assessment
  • Injection administration
  • Emergency response

Additionally, career development strategies will be presented, including:

  • Interview skills
  • Interpersonal communication
  • Résumé writing

Participants will be chosen by competitive application and receive a certificate of completion at the end of the session.

Cost:

Cost of the complete program including training materials, lunch, scrubs and training stethoscope is $799.00

Returning students are matched with providers in their field of interest to observe these professionals. Roundtable discussions and presentations allow participants to share their knowledge. Simulated patient encounters require the students to respond to emergent situations and promote teamwork. New skills are introduced with hands-on demonstrations, including a special suturing workshop. As a take-away from the program, each participant records a professionally produced, personalized scholarship video showcasing his/her participation in the program and projecting his/her future potential in health care.

Eligibilty:

Our ADVANCED Healthcare Careers Discovery Program is open only to high school students who have completed the Introductory program.

Tuition:

The course is $799 and includes all educational activities, lab coat and lunch each day.

Application Process:

Registration opens on February 12, 2019 at 7PM and will be on a first come first saved basis. 20 students will be accepted for each session.
